What should Tulisa do next? Top three celebrity comebacks ever!

All last week Tulisa Contostavlos dominated headlines and column inches following the collapse of the drugs trail against her.

At the time it seemed like ‘case closed’ and our very own Phil Hall was asked onto Good Morning Britain to talk about what she should do next…. but that wasn’t the end of the story.

In the past few days a second trial has ruled the singer is guilty of assaulting a man at the V festival last year and a new BBC documentary shows the singer contemplated suicide after the ‘fake sheikh’ sting.

As more details emerge it is likely this story will run and run. But what should the 26 year old do next? Will this exposure change the public perception of her?

In this article we look at the three biggest celebrity comebacks of all time and ask what could Tulisa learn from them?

PHA Media’s top three celebrity comebacks

Three: Robert Downey Jr

Robert Downey Jr had a hugely successful start to his career and earned an academy award nomination for Chaplin. Things soon went downhill and the star was semi blacklisted following a string of arrests and rehab stints.

Downey Jr’s salvation came when he finally managed to kick the drug habit and focused on working hard to rebuild his career. Thanks to a string of hits and the hard work and dedication of his tireless publicist it has been one of the greatest comebacks in Hollywood history.

Two: David Beckham

In 2004 the wheels came off the brand Beckham when his PA Rebecca Loos reported they were having an affair.

Despite text messages allegedly proving the claims, Beckham’s camp never denied nor confirmed the allegations and, instead, the football star immersed himself in charity work, setting up a football academy and his football career.

The story was soon forgotten and today brand Becks is as strong as ever.

One: Kate Moss

When the Daily Mirror published pictures of Kate Moss snorting Cocaine, it could have been a career-ending story.

The supermodel, who famously was dating rocker Pete Doherty at the time, was labelled ‘Cocaine Kate’, dropped by high street retailer H&M and her contracts with Chanel and Burberry were terminated.

Kate’s reputation was salvaged in part due to a media strategy which saw her make a public apology followed by a stint in rehab in Phoenix where she tackled the drug problem.

The plan seemed to work and just a year after the story broke her earnings reportedly doubled from £2million to £4million. Today she is still one of the most in demand models in the world.

Lessons for Tulisa

While the media strategies for all three celebrities were different – the one aspect they all have in common is that the celebs got back to what they were good at.

In addition to his charity work Becks focused on his football, Downey Jr got back to his acting and Moss continued to model.

It seems that if Tulisa is really going to make a dent in the public’s perception of her then the answer isn’t more behind the scenes documentaries or double page spreads. The answer is simply hard graft or, put another way, she should focus on her talent as a singer-songwriter and put this episode of her life well and truly behind her.
