The launch of the iPhone 4s was a bit of a disappointment to those who were hoping for an iPhone 5, or even an entirely new contraption sprung from the imagination of guru Steve Jobs. Instead, we got a marginally improved version of the iPhone 4 with a few new features and, crucially, housing a talking robot with a wicked sense of humour who goes by the name of Siri.
Siri is being billed as the ‘intelligent personal assistant’ and ‘knowledge navigator’ that helps you get things done. Here’s Apple’s advert to show Siri in action:[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ba0tZ_P5cg]
However, since launch, iPhone users have found that there are more interesting sides to Siri than just her functionality. In fact, you really can ask Siri anything, and she’ll give you some pretty eyebrow raising responses.
Blogs dedicated to Siri’s more tongue in cheek conversations have popped up all over the internet.
In the spirit of true Mac vs PC rivalry, within an astonishing 8 hours of the launch of Siri, Android company Dexetra came out with their own version, and sarcastically called it Iris. By all accounts Iris will need some updates to improve his sense of humour, but the turn around time is absolutely phenomenal – many National Newspapers hadn’t even had time to publish articles about Apple’s new invention before Android had answered back. Now that’s a pretty impressive Digital PR campaign!
Despite the brilliant concerted effort to create Iris, he just doesn’t seem to have the biting sense of humour that is making Siri an instant viral hit. I’ve been following some of Iris’s best comments over the past few weeks, and here are a few of my favourites:
